Alves switches to Barca
Reports in Spain announced that Alves had agreed a move to Barca in a 29.5million euro deal in early June, but until now neither the Catalan club nor Sevilla have made an official statement on the transfer.
On Saturday Del Nido confirmed the deal was close to completion and that Alves would be leaving Seville on July 1.
"If everything goes well he will say goodbye to the fans on Tuesday," he told Spanish newspaper AS.
"The deal is virtually closed. There are just a few details being finalised."
Alves has played a key role in Sevilla's improvement in domestic and European competition over the past three seasons, and his departure has been seen by some as marking the beginning of the end of the club's success.
However, Del Nido has been quick to bring in replacements for the Brazilian right-back, with Abdoulay Konko and Romaric arriving in the last week.
And the Sevilla president is in no doubt that despite the loss of Alves, his squad is capable of matching the feats of back-to-back UEFA Cup titles and Champions League qualification.
"Konko is better than Daniel Alves," he declared when asked about the new signings.
"Sevilla continue to plan the squad with their chequebook, and we'll have a squad which is more than capable of competing for the goals we have set ourselves."
Del Nido also assured fans the Alves transfer would not start a trend of the club selling their best players, and insisted despite interest from other clubs no other players would be leaving.
"There has been interest from other clubs in 10 or 12 Sevilla players," Del Nido revealed.
"Diego Capel and Adriano are just two examples. The good thing is that we are in a position which allows us to say no to these offers."
On Valencia target and Sevilla first-choice goalkeeper Andres Palop, Del Nido added: "For Andres to leave all three parties would have to be happy.
"Andres is indebted to Sevilla and vice versa. It's not a question of money."

Hamilton amazed by support
A remarkable 10,000 fans were on hand to watch the final day of a three-day test programme at Silverstone as the teams attempted to put the finishing touches to preparations for the race.
Hamilton, who delighted his army of followers by setting the fastest time of the week with a lap of one minute 19.170seconds, said: "At lunchtime, there were so many people waiting outside my garage, it was insane!."
The McLaren driver added: "Driving into Silverstone this morning felt really cool,
"I couldn't believe how many fans were at the track so early in the morning. They're pretty special, the most dedicated F1 supporters in the world.
"At the start of the day I was really eager to get out on the track. This place is so super-fast, it feels amazing in an F1 car."

Malik Hairston
Another promising high school baller when he graduated from Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan, Malik Hairston was considered a top-ten prospect when he entered the University of Oregon.
Now no longer the superstar people had projected him to be at pro level, Hairston will still make a good professional in the NBA for his all-around basketball ability.
The "jack-of-all-trades" possesses good length, lateral speed, jumping ability, and great strength. Hairston also spots a good jump shot, connecting on 53% of his shots and 43% from downtown during his senior year at Oregon.
On defence, the 21-year-old is able to play great on-ball D, thanks to a superb sense of timing. He isn't the best team defender at the moment, but is young enough to pick it up when he transits into the NBA.
Hairston should be able to carve out a niche for himself at the next level as a spot shooter/ defensive specialist like Trenton Hassell and Raja Bell if he is drafted in the second round.

Pat Calathes
Calathes is part of the new wave of tall small-forwards making their way into the NBA, players who are comfortable facing the basket, handling the basketball on the perimeter and shooting the ball from deep.
The Saint Joseph's senior plays like a guy who is below 2m (he is listed as 2.08m), and has NBA three-point range on his shot. Calathes shot well in his senior season from downtown (40%), and has proven to be very proficient from midrange in workouts.
Although he is not the fastest defender on the court, often lacking the lateral quickness to stay in front of quicker, smaller opponents, Calathes has length and size on his side, as well as an extra 5kg of muscle developed this summer in the weight room. He also has a very high basketball IQ, and can anticipate moves and shots before they happen on the court.
Pat Calathes will figure as a very good role player for years to come, particularly on a team that plays on the outside.

Patrick Ewing Jr
Patrick Ewing Jr. is the son of basketball hall-of-famer and ex-Knick franchise star Patrick Ewing.
The two may share the same name, but their style of play could not have been more different.
The elder Ewing, a star centre out of Georgetown University, was always the focal point of a team's offence, demanding the ball and dominating his opponents in the post.
The younger Ewing is more of a role player, an intangible guy who will hustle, play defence, and do anything possible to ensure a win, while always in the shadows, as he was playing behind current Georgetown standout Roy Hibbert.
Junior does not have the offensive skills his dad has, but will figure as an energy player off the bench at the next level, as evidenced by his winning of the Big East Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Ewing Jr. possesses a very high basketball IQ and will fill out the two forward roles for the team, chipping in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals in very limited time, while giving his team a lift with his intensity and work ethic. He may not get drafted in the two rounds, but will have the freedom to sign with any team for the summer league, and may be on a roster when the season begins.
I'm thinking Leon Powe, Brandon Bass and a Paul Milsap type of career for Ewing Jr. Not a star, but definitely a hero in the playoffs, when production matters.

Kanu wants a 2 year contract
The experienced striker has triggered the reward of a 12-month extension at Fratton Park after making enough appearances last season.
However, the Nigerian feels his contribution to Pompey's success last term is deserving of a more long-term arrangement.
"I cannot sign for just one year when I have done so much for the club," Kanu told Brila FM.

Raikkonen remains confident
Kimi Raikkonen's hopes of a French Grand Prix victory were wrecked by a broken exhaust, but he is confident of firing on all cylinders for the rest of the season.
After failing to score in the previous two races in Monaco and Montreal, Raikkonen appeared poised to take the chequered flag until the exhaust problem just before the midway point that resulted in a loss of power.
Leading the race up until that point from Ferrari's 200th pole of their illustrious history, Raikkonen slowly started to go backwards.
It was not long before he was passed by team-mate Felipe Massa who went on to win by 18 seconds and become the fourth different leader of the championship at the end of the last four races.
There was natural disappointment from reigning world champion Raikkonen that the win had slipped through his grasp, but then relief also he managed to finish the race at all.
"We maybe should have won, but I still took eight points and we're in a more comfortable position in the championship," said Raikkonen, who trails Massa by five points and BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica by three.
"A few laps after the exhaust broke the situation seemed better, but towards the end of the race I ran the risk of stopping.
"This sort of thing can happen in racing, and I have to look on the bright side because luckily I had built up quite a good lead in the first part of the race.
"But it shows the car is definitely strong because usually when you have this sort of problem, retirement is almost inevitable.
"At this stage there is still a long way to go in the championship, and I am in a better position now than I was at this stage last year.
"At the end of the day it was a great result for the team, a one-two, and everybody did their best. So now let's see what I can do in the next part of the series."
Massa now leads the way for the first time in his 95-race F1 career and is the first Brazilian to do so since the late Ayrton Senna in 1993.
Although such a position is special to him, it will mean nothing if he does not win the world title at the end of the season.

Cairns signs up for Notts
Cairns, who will be 38 on Friday, has been one of the leading stars involved with the Indian Cricket League – the rival competition to the IPL. Modi has said that any ICL players in the Twenty20 Cup shall be illegible from playing in the Champions League in September and October, when the winning team will collect $5 million.
The Nottinghamshire Outlaws, though, have swooped for former overseas star Cairns, who played for them from the late 1980’s.
“Chris has joined us as a Kolpak player and will play alongside (Australian) Adam Voges,” Notts Chief Executive Derek Brewers told Bigstarcricket.
“We have taken the decision to play our best side,” Brewer added in response to the discussion about selecting ICL players. “We will have to wait and see what happens but at the moment we have not received any timeline on when we will hear.”
On the move, Cairns said: “Notts have been part of my life for 20 years and I truly thought that I had played my last game for the club, so I am pleased to have the chance to make a return,” Cairns, whose signing is subject to approval from the England and Wales Cricket Board, was quoted as saying by Sportinglife.
“I am a Notts member, I have always kept an eye on the results and there is no other club that I would have rather joined. It was a late decision and the registration could come down to the wire but I'm fit to play and I can't wait to get started.
“The Twenty20 format suits my style because I like to entertain and I love winning cricket matches.”

Dwayne smith for 20-20
The 25-year-old, who played for Mumbai Indians in the recent Indian Premier League, was man of the match in the opening game of the 2007 World Cup against Pakistan and he also scored a blistering century on his Test debut in South Africa.
“Obviously we are excited to have Dwayne join us,” said Mark Robinson, Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager. “We’ve had to move quickly on this following injury to Mushy (Mushtaq Ahmed) and at a day’s notice I feel very lucky to have gained such a high quality player.
“Dwain impressed in the World Cup last year playing for the West Indies and is also a team-mate of Corey Collymore in Barbados so we’ve been able to gain a good inside knowledge of him.
“The fact that he bats, bowls and fields means he will, in theory, be a like for like replacement for Luke when he joins England.”
Smith, who toured England with West Indies A in 2006, has played ten Tests and 71 one-day internationals.

Man United for big santa?
The 26-year-old had a scintillating maiden campaign in England, bagging 23 goals following his move from Bayern Munich.
Now, despite having three-years left on his current deal, he is being linked with a big-money move away from Ewood Park.
Speaking in Paraguay, where he is preparing for World Cup duty, Santa Cruz revealed that United were after him.
Santa Cruz told La Nacion: "The interest from Manchester United is real but I'm busy now so my representatives will handle anything if there is a concrete offer."
United are thought to have been monitoring Santa Cruz for a number of months, but they are not likely to be alone in making a move - with Mark Hughes looking likely to show an interest in his former charge.
Hughes sealed his own move away from Blackburn on Wednesday when he agreed to take charge at Manchester City.
And one of his first moves could very well be to go back for Santa Cruz.

England will benefit
Blatter is looking to push through a world-wide scheme which would see club sides only allowed to play five foreign players.
Many countries have expressed concerns at the measure, including the Premier League - where some sides have very few English players featuring on a regular basis.
But Blatter points to England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008 as a good reason for the Premier League to back his plans.
"Football is unpredictable and sometimes without any logic but it is a fact that in the strongest English teams the best players are not always English," he said.
"So where are the best English players coming from? They are coming from the less strong teams, which is weakening the English national team.
"What is happening in England is that the best teams are preparing the national team players for England's opponents.
"The Premier League has benefited the other countries taking part in the European championships, but not England."
Blatter was speaking as he set to for meetings with the European Union and the president of the European parliament Hans-Gert Poettering.
One of the main hurdles for Blatter and is scheme, is whether it contravenes EU employment law.
"I am very happy that this has been accepted that the dialogue goes on, as long as we discuss, there is always a way to find possible solutions," he told Reuters.
"It's not only about the figure six plus five.

Pandev to stay putt
"It is true Tottenham want me, but I intend to stay at Lazio," he told Macedonia newspaper Vest.
Spurs feel they have missed out on Richard Dunne, believing the Manchester City defender would prefer a move to Portsmouth for personal reasons.
They also feel competition for starting places at White Hart Lane could be a factor and are understood to be looking elsewhere.
So far this summer a deal for Luka Modric has been completed, while John Bostock has agreed to sign from Crystal Palace and a move for Barcelona's Giovani dos Santos has been suggested.
Modric has revealed the role chairman Daniel Levy had in persuading him to sign from Dinamo Zagreb.
"I heard them (Dinamo officials) say the chairman was there and that everything was decided," he said.
"I couldn't speak, I was in a state of shock. I didn't expect it to happen just like that but of course I was more than happy and replied that I accepted it."
"I could hardly sleep the night before meeting the chairman and was very excited about flying to London with him. With that act the chairman has shown how much he wanted to please his coach."

Goggin takes a three stroke lead
Goggin, who started the day tied for the lead with Kenny Perry, carded a one-under-par 71 on another windy day at the demanding Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The Australian leads with an eight-under 208 total with one round left, while Mike Weir, Justin Rose, Kenny Perry, Matt Kuchar and Jerry Kelly were in a five-way tie for second at five under.
Goggin built a three-shot lead with two birdies in the first three holes, before the threat of lightning stopped play for two hours, 25 minutes.
The delay seemed to hurt his momentum, as he made just one birdie in the remainder of the round, not that they were easy to come by on a course with thick rough and slick greens.
But he kept his mistakes to a minimum, making only two bogeys, to end the day in a great position to win the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event.
Goggin now believes he can defy expectations to win on Sunday. "Three shots in front, I expect to win," he said.
But the 33-year-old Australian will be in turbulent, uncharted waters as he seeks his first victory in 186 starts on the PGA Tour.
Rose, boosted by an eagle at the par-five 15th, stayed in contention for his first tour victory.
"I would prefer to be leading by three, but three back is a great place to be," he said. "There's really no pressure. I'm in a position where it's win-win."
