Patrick Ewing Jr. is the son of basketball hall-of-famer and ex-Knick franchise star Patrick Ewing.
The two may share the same name, but their style of play could not have been more different.
The elder Ewing, a star centre out of Georgetown University, was always the focal point of a team's offence, demanding the ball and dominating his opponents in the post.
The younger Ewing is more of a role player, an intangible guy who will hustle, play defence, and do anything possible to ensure a win, while always in the shadows, as he was playing behind current Georgetown standout Roy Hibbert.
Junior does not have the offensive skills his dad has, but will figure as an energy player off the bench at the next level, as evidenced by his winning of the Big East Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Ewing Jr. possesses a very high basketball IQ and will fill out the two forward roles for the team, chipping in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals in very limited time, while giving his team a lift with his intensity and work ethic. He may not get drafted in the two rounds, but will have the freedom to sign with any team for the summer league, and may be on a roster when the season begins.
I'm thinking Leon Powe, Brandon Bass and a Paul Milsap type of career for Ewing Jr. Not a star, but definitely a hero in the playoffs, when production matters.
