England to analyze security
England were offered a revised schedule by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during a day of prolonged talks.
Top English cricket officials have also been engaged in discussions with various security agencies, both in India and the UK, as well as digesting the advice of their own man Dickason.
The BCCI have now proposed that the first Test, which was scheduled for Ahmedabad between December 11-15, will be moved to Chennai, while Mohali will host the second from December 19-23.
The two-match series was originally beginning in Ahmedabad and concluding in Mumbai.
The second venue was initially changed to Chennai but there has been another shift to ease safety fears.
Ahmedabad was the scene of numerous bomb blasts earlier this year and is relatively close to Mumbai.
Significantly, Australia recently played a Test in Mohali, just outside Chandigarh, this autumn and England's security advisor, Dickason's company, also provides advice for the Aussies, so plans and procedures will be at hand.
England have played matches in Mohali on each of their previous two Test tours, losing both, their only defeats in six outings.
Chennai was due to be hosting Champions League matches this week, so security arrangements were already in place.
Even if the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) agree to resume the trip to the subcontinent it does not necessarily mean the same 15 players will return and national selector Geoff Miller today admitted no-one should agree to resume their tour of India if they "have a sense of fear".
Miller spent the day liaising with officials from the ECB.
England's one-day squad returned on Saturday with the final two one-day internationals being scrapped in response to the attacks on several Mumbai landmarks, including the Taj Mahal Palace hotel where the team had been based at the start of the tour.
Since their return there has been speculation about whether both Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison would return.
Asked if he would go if he was still a player, former Derbyshire off-spinner Miller said: "Yes, I think I would go if I got clearance on security.
"From an England point of view representing your country is very, very big so if you've got a clearance from security of being looked after then yes, I would.
"But the focus is on playing cricket so you've got to make sure you are fully focused on that job and not being sidetracked by other issues, and that's pretty difficult. I fully understand that.
"If there's a sense of fear then you can't be fully focused on the job you are trying to do. These are difficult circumstances, difficult times, and you've got to have a very strong character to be able to do that."
The players have already been briefed by Dickason, before their departure from Bhubaneswar and his observations will now be key to whether they return.
"The players had their meeting in India and discussed things, although there was very little they could discuss while waiting to see what Reg and the security people said," added Miller.
"Now they will make their own personal decisions and once they have all done that we will reassess it, but we have to reassess it quickly because the turnaround is rapid.
"We've got two big Tests to play against one of the best teams in the world. It's not only about playing those games, it's also about the build-up to them - the preparation.
"Obviously we've been knocked back as far as that is concerned, so that's difficult in itself. So yes, the turnaround is as quick as possible because we've got to get some pre-match work done."
The Professional Cricketers' Association were been involved in today's meetings and those in charge of decision-making within English cricket want to be satisfied that any proposed security arrangements are adequate.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office were consulted by the ECB this morning but any decision on whether to travel will be down to the assessment of those at Lord's.
Current FCO website advice to British citizens - as of this afternoon - is to avoid all but essential travel to Mumbai and to 'take care to be extra vigilant in their movements' elsewhere in India.

More overtaking
Formula One has largely been criticised in recent years for the lack over overtaking as cars tour the tracks in a procession with only a few passing moves taking place.
However, next year's championship will see a change in the aerodynamic regulations, which McLaren test driver de la Rosa reckons should improve overtaking.
"Yes, definitely," said de la Rosa when asked for his thoughts on overtaking in 2009.
"Considering this is Formula One - if people think the introduction of KERS and the reduction in downforce and slicks is going to transform Formula One, then forget it.
"It will still be a wide car, there will still be aerodynamic effect and offline will stay dirty. It will be easier, but it won't be MotoGP. And people need to understand that.
"The changes are headed in the right direction. The difficulty comes from having so many changes and a massive reduction in testing for next year.
"It will make fine-tuning your car between the races very difficult. It's going to be very interesting - and there won't be enough time to test everything."
Heidfeld happy with his car
The F1 team are trying out an interim car fitted with 2009-specifications, details which include both a wide front wing and narrow rear wing.
Despite Heidfeld's team-mate Robert Kubica and test driver Christian Klien's negative comments regarding the car's appearance, the 31-year-old German star believes the car has been performing particularly well.
"The first day was with let's call it the 'B car', with the next year's rules-style aerodynamics on the front and rear wing, with a lot less downforce in total, with the KERS on the car I was driving, and with the slicks," Heidfeld said.
"Obviously the set-up is far from ideal, especially on my car as I was focusing mainly on the KERS systems.
"We're still having quite a few problems there, but at least we have it in the car. But therefore we were not focusing on set-up work, and that's why we still have quite a lot to learn.
"But I think it's good. Looking around in the paddock, comparing us to the other cars, we already have a nice B-car developed to hopefully get some good information."

Vettel on Fire
The German, who has left Toro Rosso in favour of Red Bull, put the RB4 through its pace, clocking a 1min 19.751secs lap around the Circuit de Catalunya.
That put him just over a quarter of a second ahead of Monday's pace-setter Takuma Sato. The Japanese driver, who is hoping to land a Toro Rosso race-seat for next year's championship, posted a 1:20.017 to beat his rivals for the drive, Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastien Buemi.
It was an impressive showing from Toro Rosso, although their cars were fitted out to the 2008 specifications and not next year's.
Fifth place went to McLaren test driver Gary Paffett, who finished just under half a second off Vettel's pace as he tried out the Woking outfit's new Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS).
Robert Kubica in the rather different-looking interim BMW, which features a long, flat front wing and a short, high back wing, was sixth quickest ahead of Nico Rosberg. Like Kubica he was also driving a interim car, fitted out to next year's aero specs.
Jenson Button completed the top eight for Honda.
Pedro de la Rosa, driving the Force India for the first time, was the slowest driver of the day.
Although Force India have both Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil on the books, the team is believed to be set to drop one of them to make way for McLaren test driver de la Rosa as part of the team's deal with the Woking outfit.
Earlier this month Force India agreed a technical-support deal with McLaren that will see the championship-winning team providing the backmarker outfit with engines, gearboxes and the new KERS system.
Raikkonen lacked motivation
And although the 29-year-old repeatedly denied this, he has finally conceded that at times when he was not in a position to win he didn't try all that hard.
"When there are no opportunities to overtake or to improve your position it is definitely not very interesting. But that is the way it is," he told Finnish broadcaster MTV3.
"If you know you are fighting only for third place then you maybe don't have the same speed for the whole race as normal.
"When you are driving for the title, naturally things are completely different."
The Finn eventually finished the Championship in third place, 23 points behind winner Lewis Hamilton.

Joyce aims to go out on a high
The 30-year-old has agreed to join Sussex next season but will represent the club where he has spent his entire professional career in Asia at the lucrative competition.
"If we do well in this and I do well it would be brilliant to finish off on a winning note," Joyce said.
He added: "That's what I'm hoping. It's been weird because I moved clubs at the end of last season but I've been still hanging around and training with the Middlesex players even though I'm going to Sussex next season.
"I can't wait (for the Champions League). It's the first one ever, there are lots of good players and it's going to be huge."
Winning the Champions League, which comprises club teams from Australia, South Africa, India, Pakistan and England, would bag Middlesex £2million, which chief executive Vinny Codrington said would be a massive boost for the club.
"It will be great for everybody if we win it," he said.
"It will allow us to build a new indoor school and it will be great for the players - they'll be going round with very broad smiles. They stand to do very well out of it if we win and they deserve it.
"We are very excited and very honoured and delighted to be the first representatives from this country to take part in the Champions League.
"It's a new adventure for absolutely everybody and it's something we're looking forward to with a lot of relish."
Dhoni threats to quit captaincy
According to television reports - which reported a source close to one of the selectors - Dhoni was far from happy when the decision was made to drop R P Singh and include Irfan Pathan instead.
Dhoni made it known that he did not agrree and and immediately decided to resign.
The BBCI, however, have been quick to rubbish the reports. "I can't respond to something that is being floated around by somebody", BCCI secretary N Srinivisan said.
Further reports have said that BCCI President Shashank Manohar was forced to intervene in a bid to resolve the problem.
The newly formed selection committee, headed by former Indian captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth, had met on Thursday for the team selection when the differences occurred.
Only last year, Rahul Dravid also relinquished captaincy, with a lack of say in selection matters being widely touted as the reason behind Dravid's abrupt decision.

Sehwag joins elite
The Delhi lad, who struggled with the bat in the Test, finished with five for 104 off 40 overs to emerge as India's leading wicket-taker in Australia's first innings at the Ferozeshah Kotla.
This was his maiden five-wicket haul, bettering his three for 12 against South Africa at Kanpur earlier this year.
The feat at Kotla had earlier been achieved only by three Indian top notch spinners that includes Bishan Singh Bedi (5/37 in 1969-70), Erapalli Prasanna (5/42 in 1969-70) and Anil Kumble (5/67 in 1996-97).
This was also the first that Sehwag bowled more than 30 overs in an innings. He had bowled exactly 30 overs against West Indies in their second innings at Gros Islet in 2006 returning figures of 30-9-48-1.

Rose and Els propose a tour change
Double Open champion Padraig Harrington, who has not played a continental event so far this season, was in favour of leaving the membership criteria unchanged, but Rose said: "I still think it's something that should be easily attainable for somebody playing a worldwide schedule."
He added: "It's not a drastic change. If you are looking at enticing some players who are currently not European Tour members to join the tour it might be the difference, but for myself, I am very comfortable making it 12 next year.
"The 12th event will be that season-ending event so I guess that's the only event they are really asking you to add, so not too big a deal."
The Tour launches its new-look 'Race for Dubai' in just over a month, culminating in the world's richest event in Dubai next November.
That tournament, the Dubai World Championship, is open only to the leading 60 players on the Order of Merit, and as things stood, Mickelson and the others could have become eligible without setting foot in Europe.
Els also backed the move and hinted that the current financial crisis could have an impact on the golfing calendar next year, particularly in the United States.
"I've always supported both tours and I think to raise it to 12 is really not all that much to ask for players to do," said the world number eight.
"I think the European Tour is doing a wonderful job, especially in this financial crisis. Obviously with the US economy there's some big questions there, who knows what's going to happen with the tour there."
Ganguly career in balance
There is immense pressure and scrutiny on the five wise men less than a week after being appointed on India's first fully paid selectors' panel at the Cricket Board's 79th AGM here.
It would be of great interest not only to Ganguly but also the other senior members of the "Team of the Nineties" to see which direction the selection panel takes when the team is announced for the October 9-13 Bangalore Test.
An axe on Ganguly, who was a total flop mustering less than 100 runs on the last Test series in Sri Lanka, would send a strong message across to the other three star batsmen - Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and V V S Laxman - to perform or perish.
Will Srikkanth and co-selectors Yashpal Sharma, Narendra Hirwani, Surendra Bhave and Raja Venkat pull the rug on the career of Ganguly is the big question ahead of one of the most interesting selection panel meetings.
The 36-year-old Bengal stalwart, who staged a spectacular entry into Tests with a debut ton at Lord's in 1996, made a storming return to the five-day game in South Africa in late 2006 after losing his place earlier that year. The classy left-hander amassed over 1100 runs with 239, his career-best score, against Pakistan in Bangalore in late 2007, at a fantastic average of 61.44 last year which compares very favourably with his career average of 41.74 in 109 Tests.
He has been unable to maintain that high in the current year though he has come up with important knocks like the 87 he made against the visiting South Africans at Kanpur that helped India level the three-Test rubber in April.
This, however, was followed by the left handed stylist's poor run in Sri Lanka where his best score was 35 in six innings.
What could also go against Ganguly, who is among the few Indians who have played in over 100 Tests, is his fitness level and generally poor record against the world's best team, especially at home where he averages only 27.35 in nine matches with a best innings of 66.
In case Ganguly is dropped it would open the way for younger players like Yuvraj Singh, back in the reckoning with his inclusion in the Board President's team to take on Australia at Hyderabad after being ignored for the Irani tie, Mohd Kaif, S Badrinath and Rohit Sharma into the playing XI. It remains to be seen whether the selectors opt for a third opener as back-up in case either Virender Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir are unable to take the field for some reason.
With the other middle order spots more or less decided and the return of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who opted out of the Test series in Lanka to rest his tired body, shoring up the batting, the selectors would be left with the task of finalising the bowling combination.
Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma are certainties to open the bowling. Munaf Patel showed good form in the Irani tie and is the front runner for the third seamer's spot ahead of someone like R P Singh.
Anil Kumble, expected to be named as captain, and Harbhajan Singh are sure to take the two spin bowlers' places with an additional spinner expected to be thrown in as back-up.

Etoo confirms Kuruvchi deal
The 27-year-old also revealed Kuruvchi were one of a number of clubs to have contacted him, despite claims from Barca sporting director Txiki Begiristain that the Catalan club had not received any formal bids for the striker.
"There was interest from Kuruvchi. That is one of the reasons I'm here, to get to know the people and all the interesting things about this country," he said.
Eto'o, who has been told he is not part of new coach Pep Guardiola's plans, is expected to leave the Nou Camp this summer and has been linked with moves to Serie A and the Premier League.
A host of sides have been linked with the prolific Cameroon international, with Kuruvchi claiming earlier this week they had reached a deal to sign Eto'o and that the striker would arrive in Tashkent on Thursday.
And although the story was largely laughed off in the media, Eto'o arrived in the Uzbekistan capital Tashkent as announced to give a press conference and explain the motives for his trip.
He added: "I want to say something (about my future), but there are other clubs interested and I'll make the best choice for me."
Eto'o insisted no decision had yet been made about his future, and until he was decided he promised he would continue to train with his current club.
He added: "I've not made any decision about changing teams. On Saturday I'll begin training again in Spain. If I had to decide to change club I would always do what was best for my career.
"I'll return to Spain and there I'll confirm my final opinion."
Moya battles through to a win
The 31-year-old Moya will face seventh seed Fabio Fognini in Thursday's quarter-finals after the Italian held off compatriot Filippo Volandri 6-4 6-4.
World number 27 Moya has yet to win a tournament this year after losing to Nicolas Almagro in the final at Costa Do Sauipe in February.
Top seed Fernando Verdasco, also of Spain, had little trouble reaching the last eight after dispatching France's Mathieu Montcourt 7-6 (7/5) 6-1.
The Madrid native, making his Umag debut, converted six of 12 break points while losing his serve four times and double-faulting on seven occasions in the one hour and 28 minute match.
In the quarter-finals, Verdasco will take on Mischa Zverev after the unseeded German upset eighth seed Marcos Daniel of Brazil 6-4 6-2.

Flintoff work miracles
There has been much debate about Flintoff’s return to the five-day game after an absence of 18 months because of injury.
But now he is set to play in the second Test at Headingley, there is much excitement around that he can add the kind of firepower to England’s bowling and batting that was missed in the Lord’s Test, where the game petered out into a draw.
“I always had it in the back of my mind to get 'Freddie' back into the team - he just needed another game to prove to himself,” Vaughan told reporters. “He's got through a good game against Hampshire (for Lancashire) and he's ready to come back.
However, Vaughan added cautiously: “I think we are building him up a bit too much, I think it's a bit unfair on him. He's had 18 months out of the game, he's come back for Lancashire and done reasonably well. “He's not a wizard, he's not going to come and sprinkle dust, he's just going to come and perform how he can.
“But he does have that bit of X-factor about him. You know when you give him the ball he can create something and in the past when he's gone out to bat, he's made things happen. He also has the ability to take wonderful catches.
“His stature in the dressing-room is also important and I'm sure opposition teams around the world would rather play England without Freddie Flintoff than with him.”
The second Test begins on Friday in Leeds.

CAMBY TRADED
"Marcus has been an exceptional representative of the Nuggets both on the court and in the Denver community during his time here, and we are greatly appreciative of all he has done," Denver vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien said. "This trade exception, along with the future first-round draft choice we received from Charlotte last month, gives us a number of options and a tremendous amount of flexibility."
Camby is considered one of the top defensive players in the league, becoming just the second player in NBA history to lead the league in blocked shots three consecutive seasons.
A former Defensive Player of the Year, Camby led the NBA with 3.61 blocks per game last season.
"I love this acquisition for the current makeup of our team," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We are getting a consummate pro who is maybe the best team defender in the league and who has 60 playoff games under his belt."
Camby set a slew of personal bests last season, averaging career highs of 13.1 rebounds and 34.9 minutes in 79 games - also a career high. Camby also averaged 9.1 points and had a league-best 18.0 rebounds per contest.
"I think this is a very good addition for us, especially since we're getting a player who can really help us without having to give up a player in return," Clippers vice president of basketball operations Elgin Baylor said. "Marcus can play multiple positions and is one of the better rebounders and shot-blockers in the league.
"With him playing alongside (Chris) Kaman, I think we will have a pair of excellent interior defenders, and that will make us a formidable team."
The addition likely was in response to losing long-time power forward Elton Brand to the Philadelphia 76ers via free agency a week ago.

Robredo wins
The third seed becomes the fourth successive Spaniard to win the trophy in Bastad. David Ferrer, whom Robredo knocked out in the semi-finals, emerged victorious last year while Rafael Nadal claimed the 2005 crown.
A three-time semi-finalist at the Swedish Open, Robredo used his second break of the match to take a 4-3 lead in the opener which allowed him to keep his nose in front for the rest of the set.
Robredo then broke his Czech opponent three times in the second set on his way to his sixth career ATP title and first since Metz last year.
A finalist in Bastad in 2005, Berdych had to battle through injury in his first final appearance since last year at Halle.
After the sixth game of the first set, Berdych had his right knee treated and taped by a trainer.

Hyppia welcomes Agger
Veteran Hyypia, 35 in October, has a new one-year contract and the chance to complete a remarkable 10 years at Anfield in style before considering his future options.
And the Finnish defender figured in over 44 matches for the club last season when 23-year-old Agger was out with a metatarsal injury.
But although Agger made his comeback in Saturday's 1-0 friendly win at Tranmere, and would expect to become first-choice as the season progresses, Hyypia has promised the young Dane that he will be battling to keep his place in the team.
He said: "It's nice to have him fit because players always want to play and it will have been hard for Daniel to deal with not being fit for so long.
"It must have been devastating for him to be out for almost a whole season.
"It is not something I would really know about because I have never suffered that kind of thing but I'm sure it was very difficult for him.
"But I am really glad that he is back and he can help the team to win trophies.
"I am sure the manager is happy because it means he has five centre-backs to choose from now.
"That means we all have to fight for our place but that is the way it has always been at Liverpool and this season will be no different.
"It is good to have that kind of challenge, though. I will be fighting for my place and I am sure the other defenders will be doing exactly the same."
And Brazilian full-back Fabio Aurelio underlines the strong competition there will be in Liverpool's defence now that boss Rafael Benitez has brought in two new full-backs, Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena.
Both made their debuts at Tranmere, and Aurelio told liverpoolfc.tv: "At a club like Liverpool there is always massive competition to get into the starting XI because of the players we have for each position, but that is good and it can only improve the team.
"We are trying to fight for every title and we have more possibilities this season."

Asif tests positive
In a statement issued by the BCCI, IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, who had on Sunday indicated that the player in question was a subcontinental pacer, confirmed Asif's name.
The Indian Premier League compared the result from the WADA-approved laboratory in Switzerland with the data collected by IDTM, the Sweden based independent agency which organised the anti-dope testing in accordance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards, the statement said.
It was also checked if Asif had applied for and was granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). It was found that Asif had not applied for a TUE. A note in writing has been sent to the player and his home board and to the franchisee on the findings.
The player has been informed that the specimen supplied by him has revealed an Adverse Analytical Finding and he has the right to request that the 'B' Sample (supplied by him at the same time as the A Sample which has revealed said Adverse Analytical Finding) be analysed.
If Asif requests for his 'B' sample to be analysed, he and his representative along with an IPL representative will have the right to attend the opening and analysis of it.
Once the results of the same are obtained it will be referred to the IPL Drug Tribunal, which consists of former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, Dr Ravi Bapat (former Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences) and Shirish Gupte, a leading lawyer.
The Tribunal will in due course follow the procedure as laid down in the Anti-Doping policy.
In a related development, it has been learnt that the announcement of Pakistan's 30-man list of probables for the Champions Trophy, which was to be revealed Monday, has been delayed by another day.
This is not the first time that Asif has been held guilty of drug abuse. In 2006, both Asif and team mate Shoaib Akhtar were found to have taken the banned steroid nandrolone after failing an internal PCB drug test. The PCB handed the players bans of one and two years respectively, which were overturned on appeal.

Strauss relishing the role
Much hype has been made of the three-man pace barrage that South Africa will attack England with in the form of Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel. Jacques Kallis will also be backing up that attack.
Strauss, though, who was born in Johannesburg and left at the age of six, is looking at the contest in a positive way and feels the bowling might even be easier to face than the slower New Zealand bowlers were earlier in the summer.
“The pace on the ball provides scoring opportunities,” Strauss, who hit three centuries during England's victory in South Africa three years ago, told reporters.
“If they bowl well it's going to be hard work but if they're slightly off line there may well be more opportunities to score than, say, the New Zealand bowlers, who were very disciplined but with not quite so much pace.
“All it boils down to in the end is how well they're going to bowl and how clear you are in your gameplan about how you're going to counteract that.”
He added: “The New Zealand series (which England won 2-0) tested us in very different ways. That attritional type of cricket in some ways is harder to play because you're fighting with yourself a lot of the time, whereas against South Africa you're pitting yourself against the opposition a little bit more.
“They're trying to get you out, you're trying not to give an inch in your own right. I think the opening batsmen have got a crucial role to play against their bowling attack. Both Alastair Cook and I are aware of that and the fact we need to do well to help out the team, and if we do that it will provide a good platform for the others to go out and play their shots.”
Strauss faced the probable South African Test line-up in a warm-up game at Uxbridge for Middlesex at the weekend. He felt it was a useful exercise.
“From my point of view it was fantastic to be able to face them before the Test series and start formulating game plans and how you're going to play the individual bowlers.
“I was keen to play in that game. I thought there was a lot more benefits to playing than possible negatives so it just seemed like the right thing to do and I'm pleased I did it.”

But 21-year-old Nottinghamshire seamer Broad, who himself was timed at 90mph during the recent one-day series defeat against New Zealand, said: "I don't think we need to meet their pace and bounce at all - we need to stick to what we've done well in the past four or five Test matches."
He added: "We've got two world class swing bowlers with the new ball so obviously we'll be hoping it swings and we just need to stick to the game plans we've used throughout the last Test match series.
"They worked very nicely for us there and we don't need to try and be someone we're not. I think we all bowl above 85mph which is useful, but we look to do things with the ball.
"The key for us, which we've talked about, is not to try and match pace and bounce and not be something we're not.
"If we stick to our game plans and do what we do well I'm sure we'll be successful if we do that."

Hamilton disqualified
And 23-year-old Hamilton, who will be hoping for better luck in next week's British Grand Prix, insists he enjoyed the experience despite the crash.
"I am gutted because it is a beautiful boat and I have been to the front and the bow has been snapped off," he said.
"This is the first time I have been on a sailing boat. It is very technical and the cool thing is it has a lot in common with Formula One.
"It is very complex and I was very fortunate they allowed me to drive it for 30-40 minutes but surprisingly I did a pretty good job.
"Working with Ben Ainslie has been phenomenal, especially with him on the same boat telling me I am doing a good job.
"This is one of the coolest things I have ever done and I will hopefully I will be invited here again."

Alves switches to Barca
Reports in Spain announced that Alves had agreed a move to Barca in a 29.5million euro deal in early June, but until now neither the Catalan club nor Sevilla have made an official statement on the transfer.
On Saturday Del Nido confirmed the deal was close to completion and that Alves would be leaving Seville on July 1.
"If everything goes well he will say goodbye to the fans on Tuesday," he told Spanish newspaper AS.
"The deal is virtually closed. There are just a few details being finalised."
Alves has played a key role in Sevilla's improvement in domestic and European competition over the past three seasons, and his departure has been seen by some as marking the beginning of the end of the club's success.
However, Del Nido has been quick to bring in replacements for the Brazilian right-back, with Abdoulay Konko and Romaric arriving in the last week.
And the Sevilla president is in no doubt that despite the loss of Alves, his squad is capable of matching the feats of back-to-back UEFA Cup titles and Champions League qualification.
"Konko is better than Daniel Alves," he declared when asked about the new signings.
"Sevilla continue to plan the squad with their chequebook, and we'll have a squad which is more than capable of competing for the goals we have set ourselves."
Del Nido also assured fans the Alves transfer would not start a trend of the club selling their best players, and insisted despite interest from other clubs no other players would be leaving.
"There has been interest from other clubs in 10 or 12 Sevilla players," Del Nido revealed.
"Diego Capel and Adriano are just two examples. The good thing is that we are in a position which allows us to say no to these offers."
On Valencia target and Sevilla first-choice goalkeeper Andres Palop, Del Nido added: "For Andres to leave all three parties would have to be happy.
"Andres is indebted to Sevilla and vice versa. It's not a question of money."

"I couldn't believe how many fans were at the track so early in the morning. They're pretty special, the most dedicated F1 supporters in the world.

Malik Hairston
Another promising high school baller when he graduated from Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan, Malik Hairston was considered a top-ten prospect when he entered the University of Oregon.
Now no longer the superstar people had projected him to be at pro level, Hairston will still make a good professional in the NBA for his all-around basketball ability.
The "jack-of-all-trades" possesses good length, lateral speed, jumping ability, and great strength. Hairston also spots a good jump shot, connecting on 53% of his shots and 43% from downtown during his senior year at Oregon.
On defence, the 21-year-old is able to play great on-ball D, thanks to a superb sense of timing. He isn't the best team defender at the moment, but is young enough to pick it up when he transits into the NBA.
Hairston should be able to carve out a niche for himself at the next level as a spot shooter/ defensive specialist like Trenton Hassell and Raja Bell if he is drafted in the second round.

Pat Calathes
Calathes is part of the new wave of tall small-forwards making their way into the NBA, players who are comfortable facing the basket, handling the basketball on the perimeter and shooting the ball from deep.
The Saint Joseph's senior plays like a guy who is below 2m (he is listed as 2.08m), and has NBA three-point range on his shot. Calathes shot well in his senior season from downtown (40%), and has proven to be very proficient from midrange in workouts.
Although he is not the fastest defender on the court, often lacking the lateral quickness to stay in front of quicker, smaller opponents, Calathes has length and size on his side, as well as an extra 5kg of muscle developed this summer in the weight room. He also has a very high basketball IQ, and can anticipate moves and shots before they happen on the court.
Pat Calathes will figure as a very good role player for years to come, particularly on a team that plays on the outside.

Patrick Ewing Jr
Patrick Ewing Jr. is the son of basketball hall-of-famer and ex-Knick franchise star Patrick Ewing.
The two may share the same name, but their style of play could not have been more different.
The elder Ewing, a star centre out of Georgetown University, was always the focal point of a team's offence, demanding the ball and dominating his opponents in the post.
The younger Ewing is more of a role player, an intangible guy who will hustle, play defence, and do anything possible to ensure a win, while always in the shadows, as he was playing behind current Georgetown standout Roy Hibbert.
Junior does not have the offensive skills his dad has, but will figure as an energy player off the bench at the next level, as evidenced by his winning of the Big East Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Ewing Jr. possesses a very high basketball IQ and will fill out the two forward roles for the team, chipping in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals in very limited time, while giving his team a lift with his intensity and work ethic. He may not get drafted in the two rounds, but will have the freedom to sign with any team for the summer league, and may be on a roster when the season begins.
I'm thinking Leon Powe, Brandon Bass and a Paul Milsap type of career for Ewing Jr. Not a star, but definitely a hero in the playoffs, when production matters.

Kanu wants a 2 year contract
The experienced striker has triggered the reward of a 12-month extension at Fratton Park after making enough appearances last season.
However, the Nigerian feels his contribution to Pompey's success last term is deserving of a more long-term arrangement.
"I cannot sign for just one year when I have done so much for the club," Kanu told Brila FM.

Raikkonen remains confident
Kimi Raikkonen's hopes of a French Grand Prix victory were wrecked by a broken exhaust, but he is confident of firing on all cylinders for the rest of the season.
After failing to score in the previous two races in Monaco and Montreal, Raikkonen appeared poised to take the chequered flag until the exhaust problem just before the midway point that resulted in a loss of power.
Leading the race up until that point from Ferrari's 200th pole of their illustrious history, Raikkonen slowly started to go backwards.
It was not long before he was passed by team-mate Felipe Massa who went on to win by 18 seconds and become the fourth different leader of the championship at the end of the last four races.
There was natural disappointment from reigning world champion Raikkonen that the win had slipped through his grasp, but then relief also he managed to finish the race at all.
"We maybe should have won, but I still took eight points and we're in a more comfortable position in the championship," said Raikkonen, who trails Massa by five points and BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica by three.
"A few laps after the exhaust broke the situation seemed better, but towards the end of the race I ran the risk of stopping.
"This sort of thing can happen in racing, and I have to look on the bright side because luckily I had built up quite a good lead in the first part of the race.
"But it shows the car is definitely strong because usually when you have this sort of problem, retirement is almost inevitable.
"At this stage there is still a long way to go in the championship, and I am in a better position now than I was at this stage last year.
"At the end of the day it was a great result for the team, a one-two, and everybody did their best. So now let's see what I can do in the next part of the series."
Massa now leads the way for the first time in his 95-race F1 career and is the first Brazilian to do so since the late Ayrton Senna in 1993.
Although such a position is special to him, it will mean nothing if he does not win the world title at the end of the season.
